To mark its 100th anniversary, Nougat Vital is not only looking back on a rich history spanning three generations, but also looking ahead to a more sustainable future. In line with our Roadmap, focused on creating value together by strengthening local and sustainable production chains, Nougat Vital aims to play an active role in this transition. The company was founded in 1926 by Vital Gormez and has grown into an established name in the production, sale, and export of nougat. By combining traditional craftsmanship with modern applications, Nougat Vital continues to adapt to a changing world.
Fair ingredients
For the Belgian chocolate it uses, Nougat Vital has for years chosen to work exclusively with chocolate containing Fairtrade-certified cocoa. The company also joined the Open Chain of Tony’s Chocolonely, an initiative aimed at ending exploitation in the cocoa supply chain. In addition, Nougat Vital partners with Fairtrade Belgium for the production of nougat made with Fairtrade cane sugar and honey.
Innovation also plays a role in the company’s vision for the future. Nougat Vital was the first in the world to develop a fully plant-based nougat granulate. After extensive research, protein from green peas proved to be the most suitable plant-based alternative to egg white.
Investments in energy and water management
Significant steps are also being taken in the areas of energy and water management. The factory building is now equipped with 400 solar panels, and investments are being made in more efficient production processes. For example, a closed-loop water cooling system is being installed, eliminating the annual water consumption of approximately 750,000 liters. As a result, virtually no water is consumed or discharged, and sanitary installations use rainwater. Transportation is also being made more sustainable by replacing all company vehicles with electric cars.
With these initiatives, Nougat Vital demonstrates that a century of experience can go hand in hand with innovation and sustainable entrepreneurship, and that tradition and transition can perfectly reinforce one another.
